PostHeaderIcon Can I Put My 1st Grader Back In Kindergarten?

My son is having a huge problem in the 1st grade. He is has the worst grades possible. My husband and I have tried to help the teacher at home, but with no luck. He does not have a learning disability or ADD. In class, he is very disruptive and misbehaves on a daily basis, mostly because he has no clue what to do. At this point in the school year, his writing and math skills are unchanged. He can read at grade level. He cannot count past 12 independently and has trouble with finding number patterns. I want to know if putting him back in kindergarten is an option or is there another solution? I have 2 other school age children who are doing fine in school and when they hit a rough patch we were there to help them learn and get through it. I don’t know if I’m giving up on him or if I’ve just run out of ideas to help him. His teacher has no clue what to do either. Please help us.

PostHeaderIcon Is It Possible For A Child To Fail Kindergarten?

My dad and I say that its impossible for a kindergartener to fail Kindergarten. My aunts say it is possible for them to fail because they are now learning more things.
I don’t understand how it would be possible for them to fail because they don’t really do that much. Of course they learn how to read and write and spell but they are 5 years old and I don’t see how they can.
Can you please explain why they can or cannot fail?

PostHeaderIcon How Much Should A Child Know When They Are Going Into Kindergarten?

Alright, my girl is 5, for the last 2 years she has been at a private school. Starting the school year she will be going to a public school. She is worried that she will “FAIL”. So this is what she is able to do at this point: She knows sign language, spanish, can count up to 100+, She can do simple addition, starting to tell time, knows her shapes and not just circle or square, but the big ones. She can read the “I can read books at Level 2″ She is very bright. So with what you know, will she have any problems going into a public kindergarten school? I tell her, she is not going to have any problems, and we are working on making the switch to a big new school I a great thing. But she feels she won’t beable to do this. So what do you think, what is the norm when going into kindergarten? Any help would be great, thanks so much for your time.

PostHeaderIcon Where Can I Find 80s Elementary Reading Textbooks?

I am looking to buy the reading textbooks I had in elementary school. Preferably the 1st and 2nd grade books. I attended kindergarten in 1984 so I don’t know if they were that year edition or earlier. I have come up with nothing in all of my searches! Anyone ever seen vintage 80s school books?

PostHeaderIcon What Is The Best Way To Teach A Child To Read, Write, And Do Basic Kindergarten/first Grade Math?

World Book Encyclopedia offers a typical course study for each grade at this website: http://www.worldbook.com/wb/Students?cur…
I would suggest “Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons” by Engelmann. It’s not very expensive and can be often found at Barnes & Noble or Borders. You might even be able to find it at your library. It is broken down into about 20 minute lessons, and some kids can do as many as two a day in the beginning.
For math, you might want to see how much you can do with objects around your house. I also recommend Kumon’s Number Games 1-70 for teaching number up to 20 and beyond. My four-your-old loved the combination of color by numbers and dot-to-dots and learned a lot. There are a variety of other Kumon workbooks, too, which can be found at most of the big book chains.

PostHeaderIcon What Course Of Action Would Be Taken For A Child Entering Kindergarten That Is Not Potty Trained?

I am just curious what are a parents options. i have read that a school will not accept a child into kindergarten if they are not potty trained. in the case i am writing about there are no other ‘issues’, i suppose is the word, with the child. it is strictly lazy parenting. what will the parents have to do home school the child? would this be something social services would look into? thanks for any light you can shed on this.
