Summer Math/reading Programs To Do At Home?
My son will be finishing kindergarten in 2 weeks. What programs are available to do at home to continue progress through the summer? He has learned so much in this first year, I want to avoid backsliding as much as possible. Thanks!
I Just Found Out My Son Is Way Ahead Of His Class In Reading…?
I knew he was doing well, but I just found out he has already gone through all of the Kindergarten level reading books – he blew through them, faster than any other kid in his class. He has also learned all of his sight words much faster than the other kids.
Once I am done beaming, and being proud of him, and bragging about it to everyone I know… I want to make sure that I foster it as much as possible.
One thing I have noticed when he reads to me is that he doesn’t really FOCUS. He squirms around gets up and sits back down… and he will stop in the middle of a sentence to tell me a story because the word he just read make him think of the story.
I try to calmly tell him to focus, and don’t stop mid-sentence to go off topic, and to not squirm, etc… but I don’t want to make it into a negative experience.
Why does he get so distracted and squirmy… and what, if anything should I do about it?
Any advice to keep his love of reading going is appreciated.
I Live In The U.s. How Do Pre-school Teachers Introduce Reading In Class?
Do you teach actual reading skills? How and which ones? Or just sight words and if so, how and which ones? Can you refer me to some books that give info?
I;m in my last leg of getting certified to teach pre-kindergarten students. I am passionate about reading, and have lots of ideas of how to get these kids started in reading. But since Madonna moved to England so her kids could go to English schools because she says “they are better than U.S. schools” (and she is no doubt correct about that!), I wondered what pre-K teachers in the U.K. did to teach reading to 4 year old pre-K students. Thanks!
Help With First Day Of Kindergarten Outfit (read For Details)?
My daughter Molly will be starting Kindergarten in August. I’m trying to get all the back-to-school stuff done early because I’m due with our 3rd child in August, I’m not going to be up to running around and getting everything together. I want to get her a fun, cute, and comfy outfit for her first day of school. I’m a huge Gymboree fan! So I was thinking either one of these two combos…

Which outfit do you think would be better? We’re going for simple and comfy. I just want to get this part of shopping done before I have the baby. (I have other school clothes, I want something “special” for the first day)
Thanks so much!
Can You Tell Me What This Means? Can You Explain It To Me Like I’m In Kindergarten?
Physicists have discovered that the apparent solidity of matter is an illusion created by our senses. This includes the physical body, which we perceive and think of as form, but 99.99% of which is actually empty space.
I read this in a book (“A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle) and I’m having trouble grasping it. Can you help?
Whatever Happened To The Days When It Was Perfectly Fine To Learn Reading In First Grade?
There used to be a time when a child learned writing in kindergarten and reading mostly in the first grade. Nowadays, I see question after question on here from people thinking something is wrong with their child for not reading before kindergarten! What’s the push? Most of us learned reading around 6 or 7, and there is nothing wrong with our intelligence. Isn’t it more important to expose your child to reading and to develop pre=reading skills such as understanding a story or starting to recognize letters vs actually reading? I mean why is it now not even ok for a 2 year old not to be reading yet?
What Is The Average Age A Child Learns To Read?
I always thought kids learned to read in kindergarten, but I’ve been told that now, it’s around age three. That seems really early. Any answers?
My Son Can Read At 4 Yrs Old. Is He Going To Be Too Advanced For Kindergarten?
I fear he will get bored and become disruptive in class. After signing him up and reviewing the syllubus for the year, he knows everything on it. Am I overreacting?

What Do You Consider The Smartest Thing Your Parents Ever Did For/to You?
My father taught me to read by the time I was in kindergarten, and read stories and a newspaper with me while I was young.
My mother refused to let me drop out of school at fifteen.
