PostHeaderIcon Is There Any Way To Get My Child Into First Grade In A State Where Kindergarten Is Mandatory?

My child turned 5 just three days after the “must be five years old by ____” deadline last year. She started kindergarten last week and I am appalled by the “curriculum” . My daughter can read entire books, whereas in her class, they’re aiming for the children to be able to read 40 words by the end of the year. They’re learning shapes and the alphabet and to be able to count to ten and write their names. All things I began teaching her around the age of two. I feel that she is going to suffer academically. No, I know she is. I think the law is garbage. Does anyone know of ANY way to get around this? Thanks…

PostHeaderIcon Getting Held Back In Kindergarten?

My son kindergarten teacher wants to hold him back
and he does…have some learning trouble which is my fault because i wasn’t very smart during the pregnancy but i don’t want him to have to suffer because of me
he can write his name and he can read a bit.
but she says that he is not ready at all for 1st grade
and maybe it is a bit early…he is 5. but im scared
because he has selective mutism and me and my godparents have worked really hard on getting him to talk. and he talks to the kids in his class! and if they move on and he doesn’t ..then we will have to start all over again. and i don’t want to traumatize him or make him feel unspecial in any way
has anyone else have had their child held back?
what did you do?
do you think there is a way i can move him still?

PostHeaderIcon Long Island New York Mom Needs Your Help And Suggestion. Thank You. ?

Hello. Thank you so much for reading this post. I am interested in opening a preschool in my home of no more than 3 children. I have experience as a homeschooling parent and know that I can prepare the children for kindergarten.
What do I charge per hour? Should I charge a tuition per month? How does this work. I will be introducing wonderful unique learning programs and school trips. Should I charge extra or just include it. I really want to be reasonable but fair to me. Thanks so much for your help. I truly appreciate it.

PostHeaderIcon Formal Education For A Gifted 4-year Old In Washington State?

Our 4-year old daughter is reading, writing and doing basic math, she even problem solves and has about half the Dolch words memorized. She’s very bright and it would be a waste to make her have to wait a year only to have her enrolled in Kindergarten which she would probably get bored in. Does anyone know of any resources in Washington state (Island County) that would help us? Homeschooling has already been considered but with today’s economy both of us parents need to work full-time.

PostHeaderIcon What Things Do You Learn In Kindergarten?

My son is four but already reads, writes (not that well though) and works on first grade computer educational games. He can’t follow the rules of the local kindergarten class so I am thinking of homeschooling him. Some of the rules of the class are:
1. Sit at the desk for 25 minutes focusing on the task at hand
2. Be able to sit in the circle and listen to a book without interruption or distraction
3. Follow directions the first time they are given
4. Keep hands/feet to yourself
5. Do not disturb or neighbor or fellow students
I’m sorry but as an adult I have problems with some of the rules. My son only sits really still and quiet if he is watching a movie he hasn’t seen before. He loves to interact with other people and really loves to make the sound effects for stories being read. He really loves to learn and I hate to have that be ruined by not being able to follow the rules.

PostHeaderIcon Does Anyone Have Any Ideas To Help A 6 Year Old Boy Learn How To Read And Write Better?

My nephew has been held back in Kindergarten. They tried to hold him back again in Kindergarten because he could not rhyme. He is left handed and having difficulty learning to write possibly for this reason. I have had a great deal of help from a man online who has been able to figure out what types of books he likes to read with me. But the success rate has been slow. His father who tries to help him is a dyslexic but he has shown little sign of dyslexia himself. Even the most ignorant, angry, offensive, silly, rude, disgusting of you out here can read and write better than this child can at this time in his life possibly the rest of his life which will really limit his life increase the chances he becomes a burden in life because he will not be able to read and to form opinions for himself much like what happens in other less well educated countries. I have a BA in education but not in special needs children so any ideas would really be welcome with helping Logan succeed in life.

PostHeaderIcon Homework In Kindergarten Is Getting Out Of Control……………?

My son is in kindergarten, and I have never seen a kid at this level have so much homework. Tonight he has to write his first and last name 3 times, write half of the alphabet in capitol letters, write 1-50 by ones and count to 100 by 5′s and 10′s. After that he has two worksheets he has to read to me, then study three pages worth of work already done this year to prepare for his 9 weeks test on friday. He is 5 and hates school, I’m trying to encourage him to look at it in a different view but between me and you this is crazy, and I find it hard to blame him for hating school!! What would you do????

PostHeaderIcon Anyone Know Of Any Online Stories For Young Kids?

Hey everyone. My little cousin is in Kindergarten and each day for homework we are suppose to read 15 minutes. I haven’t got many books and I plan to maybe check some out soon..but for the time being… Does anyone know of any sites that have stories that I could read to a 5 year old? I’d like pictures and I kinda don’t want long sentences..
If anyone can help me out with maybe a link or to, I’d definitely appreciate it.
