PostHeaderIcon Need Book To Read To K-12 School?

I am a new school librarian and my principal has tasked me with finding a book he can read to the school, which includes kindergarten through twelfth grade at the opening school assembly. The examples he gave were “Oh the Places We’ll Go” by Seuss and “A Fine, Fine School” by Creech. The book will be scanned to create a power point so the visuals as well as words should be interesting and some kind of moral should be given. Thanks for any suggestions.

PostHeaderIcon Obama’s Education Plan: Kindergarten Sex?

“Obama’s one accomplishment? Legislation to teach ‘comprehensive sex education’ to kindergartners. Learning about sex before learning to read? Barack Obama. Wrong on education. Wrong for your family”.

If you are familiar with the Houghton Mifflin Reading Series, I need to know what (who) the Preschool/kindergarten-level alphafriend is for the letter Yy.

PostHeaderIcon Now They’ve Got This Patriot Act – Is The Kindergarten Colony Going To Destroy Itself From Within???

The other day, I saw what must surely be one of the best episodes of Law and Order that this franchise has ever produced – certainly the most poignant & thought provoking!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0629206/

Anyone reading this question, have you seen this episode before?
Yes the story may well have be fictitious, but a FISA warrent isn’t!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Foreign_Intelligence_Surveillance_Court

I felt the logic of this excellent & gripping episode was flawless.
Surely this kind of scenario must be continually playing itself out in similar REAL LIFE & chilllingly sinister inter-law conflicting ‘plot-lines’?
To put it bluntly, the word ‘SPOOK’ rang loud in my ears whilst watching this episode!
This ‘aching’ Superpower is now definitly on a collision course with itself & its constitution such is the increasing and exponential paranoia that this Act must be causing and pervades in anycase within its borders since 9/11 – wouldn’t you say?!

PostHeaderIcon If You Feel Like Reading Than Answer This…if You Don’t Than Stop Here!?

I really like this one boy that goes to my school. But I’m not sure if he likes me. So maybe you can help me out on this one. I’ve known him ever since he started school. I’m in 10th grade he is in 9th grade. I do NOT go to a private school, our school is just very small. High school, Middle school, and the elementary are all in the same building (500 students go to my school including all grade levels). I just wanted to get that clear that I don’t go to a private school.
But anyways like I said i’ve known him since the day he started kindergarten, which happens to be a long time. I would always talk to him on the bus and stuff, we were like good friends you could say. Then when I went into middle school, I would only really see him on the bus and stuff. So that kind of changed everything. Then after that we never said a word since then. But over the past few years I have started liking him and gaining feelings for this guy. I don’t know what it is about this guy that I like so much. He is pretty darn hot (He’s a sk8ter). But I see something else, and I haven’t even talked to him since 4th or 5th grade.
So now you can tell how much I like him. But really I’m trying to figure out if he likes me or not. Last school year he would give me signs that he liked me (I think their signs, but not sure). Here they are…
-He would check me out a lot.
-He would show off his cell phone and walled all the time on the bus.
-He seemed to get embarrassed a lot in front of me.
-He stares into my eyes and nowhere but my eyes pretty much everytime I would see him.
-ETC.
There are more but…that was last year. Lots of thing could have changed over the summer. Okay, so we just started school this past Monday. And the first two day he didn’t give me any signs whats so ever. He did stare at me a little bit on Wednesday. But on Thursday, I was sitting on the bus with my best friend Alisha and Alisha started poking me. And she was like “Jesse’s staring at you.” (Jesse is the boy that I like). So I looked up and he was…but once he noticed me looking at him he looked away. Then Friday morning we had to practice getting of the bus in case something would happen. And Alisha started poking me again and she was like “Jesse’s staring at you again.” And I looked behind me this time (He was sitting behind me on Friday) So I turned around and looked and he was. Then once the bus driver told us to run off the bus, Jesse kind of liked followed me over to where we had to all meet up at. Then when they told us to walk back into the school Alisha and I were walking behind him and we were talking about where we got out jeans. I was like I got mine at Pac Sun. And he turned around and checked me out. Consdering that he wear’s their jeans.
Then came lunch time Friday afternoon. I walked up to take my tray up and on the way back I passed his lunch table. And he just looked into my eyes and his face out beat red. It was sooo cute!!!
Okay, so now your probably thinking that he likes me. But two years ago when I was in 8th grade. I decided to ask him out. He never gave me signs then. So I had my best friend Carlie do it…while I skipped a day of school, because I couldn’t be there. But my sister was there to see if Carlie really did ask him out. Which she did and he said….”no”. But of course that was two years ago. And to tell you the truth I looked a lot different than from 8th grade. I mean prettier…because I started to wear make-up and my hair got longer…etc.
So my quesiton is….Does Jesse like me???

PostHeaderIcon So I’ve Been Reading The Bible..?

for the first time straight through. And compared with some notions about Jesus Christ and new-testament morality, the old testament is a shocking contrast to the watered down bible stories from kindergarten. Now the God of the old testament doesn’t want world peace, he wants Israelite domination! He kills off massive numbers of people (Sodom and Gomorrah) He tells Jacob and Isaac to marry their cousins and have tons and tons of babies. He mass murders Egyptians through curses and the drowns them in the red sea. And he helps the israelites chase out the hittites, and perrizzites and all the other -ites in the land.
You know what it looks like to me? Looks like some genetic intervention going on. Do you think God had some goal shifts? Or maybe the pillar of smoke and fire wasn’t really God, but an impostor from somewhere else…?

PostHeaderIcon Is My Sister’s Daily Prep School Schedule Okay For Her Age (5 And Kindergarten)?

It’s my sister’s first year at a new private prep school, K-5. Is this schedule okay?
8:00-8:10: Attendance
8:10-8:30: Spelling and Vocabulary
8:30-8:50: Reading
8:50-9:10: Writing
9:10-9:30: Arithmetic
9:30-9:50: Data and Logic
9:50-10:10: Ecology
10:10-10:30: History
10:30-10:50: Geography
10:50-11:30: French
From there on it depends. There are enrichment programs after-school, and you can stay for lunch if you want. But she has Intense gymnastics, plus she needs dance for that, so she doesn’t go. But seriously, is that good for a 5 year old?

PostHeaderIcon I Asked This Yesterday, But After Re-reading, I Was Vague On Details?

My son will be 5 in less than three weeks. Due to his birthday, he has to wait until next year to start kindergarten. But he started headstart this year, and the first day he did famously, like a pro. The second and third day he cried at nap time, which he HATES naps, so that wasnt that big of a surprise to me. Well, yesterday, the 4th day, he cried as we dropped him off saying he had to poop and didnt want to do it at school. I knew that if i gave in and took him home to poop, he would quickly realize that if he said he had to poop, he would get to go home and make a habit out of it. So I told him he had to poop at school and of course he refused. The teachers helped me calm him down and eventually he pooped and that was that. Now, he has been fully potty trained since he was 23 months old and never had an issue before. How can I help him realize that its ok to poop at school because everybody does it and it is a natural normal thing. I guess I took for granted that since he was so easy to potty train and hadnt had any issues, that this wouldnt be an issue either.
Or do you think that he was grasping at things to say to get him to be able to come home? Because he cried again today say that he didnt want to leave because he would miss me too bad and that he would be upset if he left me. (Adding to all of this, he has a 10 week old baby brother, and up until then, was an only child so he has the adjustment of a new sibling AND starting school)
It broke my heart to send him on to school with daddy this morning, but I know that I behaved in quite the same way the first 3 weeks of kindergarten when my mom dropped me off. And my nephew started kindergarten two weeks ago, and he is just now starting to not cry daily. So is this just one of those things I will have to wait out and not give in to his tears?

PostHeaderIcon When You Read The Bible, Does It Ever Strike You That You’re Reading A Very Childish Fairy-tale?

Considering the fact that the Bible has been edited and edited over and over again with ultra-proofreading throughout the years……..here we got……..
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” [The opening phrase just sounds so sophisticated and mature!(sarcastically rolling my eyes)]
“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light” [Give me a break, I'm not in kindergarten!]
“And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man” [Women are merely a piece from Man, named by Man!]
“Every living substance that I have made will I destroy.”
[God repeats his intention to kill "every living substance ... from off the face of the earth." But why does God kill all the innocent animals? What had they done to deserve his wrath? It seems God never gets his fill of tormenting animals. ]
****A very childish book suitable for childish brains****

PostHeaderIcon What Books Are These? [early Reader Books, With Animals]?

The first books I ever read in Kindergarten were ones that included a mouse/rat named Sam, a snake, and something to do with a “mat”. I’ve searched the Internet over for these books, but have not been able to come up with the author or anything.
