PostHeaderIcon Does Yahoo Actually Read The Questions That Get Reported Before Deleting Them?

I just asked a question about twins (as I am going to be a dad to twins), it wasn’t an offensive question at all but now Yahoo has removed it. One person answer and said she was going to report me cause apparently I reported her for something previously (I thought things like that stopped back in Kindergarten lol), so don’t they even read the content that’s been reported?

PostHeaderIcon Can Someone Please Give Me Some Advice?!!!?

Hello everyone! I have a six year old who’s in first grade that doesn’t know how to read at all. When he was in kindergarten, he was able to sound out words and was able to spell words like CAT, HAT, SAT; etc. Now, he seems to have lost some of what he has learned. I’m trying my best to teach him how to sound out words but he gets so frustrated and cries. That hurts as a mom! You can tell he wants to read and I have seen him try to read books when he’s alone, but when I look to see what he reads, he’s not reading what’s exactly in the book. He puts the story in his own words. He asks me a lot if I think he’s smart and I reassure him everyday that he is. He’s no different than any other child. He loves animals, such as, dogs, cats, horses…the list goes on and on, lol! I just need a little advice and helpful tips to help with his reading. He wants to learn and I want to be able to help him the best way. Thank you everyone in advance!

PostHeaderIcon Is She At Risk Of Suicide? ?

A lady (mother) recently told me in conversation that she has been thinking her 3 children would be better off without her. Before she said this, I was talking to her about a few minor problems she was having with her 5 year old daughter. I work at a kindergarten. Is she at risk of suicide or am I reading too much into it? She seemed anxious and I gave her a few contact numbers for support. Is there anything else I should do? I can’t help but worry but don’t want to overstep the mark seeing it could be a personal issue?

PostHeaderIcon Homework In Preschool?

This question is an extension from another question I have asked in this forum. I babysat for my younger cousins, two girls. The older one is 4 and in preschool. Her teacher is supposed to the best. She assigns homework every night for the kids. She gives the math problems (addition & subtraction). I didn’t start doing that kind of stuff until kindergarten and 1st grade! They also have reading assignments and they have to practice writing their letters and numbers. Well naturally since I was watching her after school I made sure that her homework was done. This teacher is very strict. She wants the homework to be absolutly perfect. Perfect handwriting. No mistakes. No eraser marks. Ofcourse I won’t let my cousin turn in homework that isn’t correct. But naturally she is going to mess up and she will have to erase. After about a month. My aunt tells me that she got a call from my cousins teacher saying that the homework has been very sloppy. She doesn’t accept sloppiness. I got upset because, the teacher has been sending my cousins homework back with happy faces and stars. Nothing about the appearance. My aunt once sat with me while I was helping her with her homework and told my cousin what a good job she was doing. If her homework is so sloppy, why wait a month to say something? I am not an expert in early childhood education but what 4 year old, who is just starting to learn to write is going to have perfect handwriting? I am not saying that we shouldn’t have hig expectations, but should we also be realistic? I am not an early childhood education expert, so I don’t know what the expectation is. Short of me doing the homework for her, I don’t know what more I could have done.

PostHeaderIcon People Call Me White Wash Sometimes But It Bothers Me Alot.

Before I started kindergarten, all I knew was Spanish. Then I had to learn English, ever since I mostly use that language and I didn’t see a problem with it. I do talk to my mom in Spanish, but It’s not that good
anymore. But I try to fix it! I understand it and I read it. I can write it good but there are small problems like misspellings.
Seriously, I never judged anyone by their color of their skin! , I’ve had all kind of friends with different races when I was young. Things were so much better back then because now everyone is racial. I Just hate it.
Still I don’t dye my hair at all, never have and
People Just stare at me like I’m “The Missing Link!” -.-
Even my very old friend said “Why do you hang out with white people” and I never even noticed it. Though shes the one who stopped being my friend too she has the nerve to tell me that.
In family event’s, my sister and I are the outcasts, I’m 17 and even our cousin’s who are little make fun of us, and we are annoyed with it. I try to talk to them too, because the kid’s seem easier to talk to. but NOPE. WRONG. Even toddlers just stare at me and back away, because our cousin’s tell them too.
They judge the music that I listen to, but I listen to variety of music. they judge on where I live. I live one block away from a beach. And it all adds up to “white wash” in their view. I don’t even go to the beach much.
I’ve made new friends but I still get the same old “white wash” crap. How should I feel about this or am I doing something wrong here? Please don’t be mean. :[

PostHeaderIcon For First Grade Teachers……………….?

What are some activities you are using for the first week of school? I am so overwhelmed (teaching first grade for the first time, previously taught kindergarten) and need some good activities for math, reading, science, social studies, to use until they can learn the routine. Thanks!

PostHeaderIcon American Education Lacking?

I’m a grad student and do a lot of online classes. I would think that people who are also at the same education level would be able to spell correctly and would be careful about their grammar. We do turn in lots o papers and I would think that most of them, if they are even being read by the instructor, would fail or get very low grades.
That said, shouldn’t it be starting with Kindergarten? These kids are doing themselves an injustice but since they are kids, don’t the parents have the responsibility to see that they are doing well? What about the teachers? Shouldn’t they be checking the work and promoting excellence in students?
