I Have Had It With My Kid’s Behavior. I Am Pulling Him Out Of School. Where To Find Textbooks?
I send my son to school a nice warm hearted little boy and they keep sending back a mouthy violent brat. I have had it. I am not sending him back to school. He is in kindergarten and ahead of the game anyways. His teacher doesn’t have a reading group for him (he tested at the 3rd grade level) and he has already finished the math workbook for the year (in 4 weeks). Today I was correcting him about spitting on his workbook and he poked me with the pencil (yes it broke the skin). He continually tells me he hates me and doesn’t have to listen to mommies (courtesy of a classmate), he is lying, throws toys at me, and more in addition to all the talking back. This is not how I raised him. I know some of it is just being 5 but this makes the terrible two’s look like a trip to Disneyland. Aside from the workbooks at local bookstores, is there a place to buy textbooks?

My Son’s Teacher Thinks He Has Adhd, I Disagree. What Should I Do?
I’ve never dealt with anything like this before. My son is extremely intelligent. He’s in kindergarten (started school at 4, is now 5) and knows all of his letter, numbers, and can read and do simple math. His teacher has been saying that he’s exhibiting ADHD behaviors and has been talking to me about the benefits of ADHD medications. I am in no hurry to force drugs on my active, but as far as I’m concerned normal, 5 year old. I think he’s bored, and she disagrees. I got his report card yesterday, and it says that he’s struggling with his “sight words” so I got the list of words out and was going through them with him and he got them all right! WTHeck? I think that she’s just impatient with him, and that she would rather have him in a trance at his desk then to deal with him.
I’m afraid to take him to the doctor because I know that they often take the side of the school. I’m throwing around the idea of homeschooling him and my other children, but I have 4 kids and I’m afraid I won’t be up to the challenge of homeschooling them all, and I won’t keep one home to watch his siblings go off to school every day. It’s a tough situation all around.
I guess I just don’t understand why he’s exhibiting these behaviors at school, and not at home!? I can get him to sit down for close to an hour when we practice reading, but she insists that she can get him to sit still for 5 minutes to color a picture. What should I do? Take him to the doctor? I am really opposed to medicating a child that I feel is a completely normal, functioning 5 year old.
Starting Homeschool?
I REALLY REALLY want to homeschool my kids, which are 3 & 4 right now. I thought about sending them to kindergarten and maybe a few years of elementary to let them learn the basics (reading, writing, basic math) and then taking over from there. Now, though, I really just want to teach them myself. All I get from people I know is how hard it is, and how they think I shouldn’t do it, that its just WAY too difficult and time consuming. I still want to do it though. I am starting to give up, though I don’t want to. I want to push forward and follow my hopes of homeschooling my children. Does anyone know of any curriculum that would make it easier FOR ME to keep them on track? I don’t want them to fall behind because I didn’t do something right or forgot to do something all together. I just want to homeschool without messing them up.
My 6 Yr Old’s Teacher Says She Has Trouble Focusing.?
My daughter is in the first grade and she is 6,soon to be 7.All year long we have heard she has trouble focusing and following directions. We work with her every night and she does fine at home.Sometimes i have to repeat myself, but not always. She does not distract others or fidget. The teacher says sometimes when she ask her a question, she stares at her and then answers something totally different. Her kindergarten teacher never mentioned this to us.Her grades are satisfactory. She has only made 1 bad grade this year and that was in math. Her reading is improving.I see a big progress in her from last year. She could barely read any last year, now i think she reads good for her age.Any suggestions on what could be the problem.Could it be the teacher.Last year she loved her teacher, and talked about her all the time. She loved going to school and never wanted to miss. This year she never mentions the teacher except when she tells me she raises her hand and the teacher never calls on her.She talks about how she hates school and asks me every night if she has to go to school.I could really use some advice.
Anime Questionnaire!?
Because I’m bored. So…I have no dubiously witty comments to say, so just fill out the form, sign your name here, here, and here, and your insurance form will be complete. As far as you know.
And, begin!
#1. When you read/watch an anime or manga by a particular author or company, do you feel obligated to read whatever else that author/company produces?
>>Ah, yes, fan loyalty. I am a victim of it. After watching and loving the anime FLCL and Gunbuster 2 (Diebuster), I feel obligated to watch whatever GAINAX produces. I haven’t been disappointed by any of the series, so that just strengthens my loyalty. Which is why I’m watching Hanamaru Kindergarten this season. As for manga, I’m an absolute sucker for books that say “from the author/artist of [series x]!” I’ve bought so many blind buys that way…
#2. Plan on watching anything this season? Thoughts on any series you have watched?
>>I’ve watched the first episodes of Hidden God and Sora no Woto. I love them both (and not just because I’m a sucker for slice-of-life and anything by Peach-Pit). I plan to watch Dhurarara!! at some point (probably this Friday) and Katanagatari when it’s released.
#3. Adult Swim has recently made an announcement that they’ve accquired three new anime licenses and they plan to broadcast them on their network. What do you think they are, why, and how well do you think they’ll do?
>>From reading the feedback on ANN on this announcement, and from my own personal intuition, I think it’s Soul Eater, the final season of InuYasha, and FMA: Brotherhood. First, I pick Soul Eater because…well, I really just want it to be on TV. As for how well I think it’ll do, probably well for the first few airings and then, either by time slots or something else, will gain less and less viewers until it’s taken off the air. I think InuYasha is a good pick because they’ve shown all the beginning of InuYasha and it seemed to do well, so I don’t see why the last season would be any problem, at least with ratings. FMA: Brotherhood is basically the same reasoning, its predecessor did well so I think this one will too. Of course, I don’t know how well viewers will take to a basic repeat of the original FMA.
#4. FUNImation has finished their roll-out riot (a week where they announced a bunch of new licenses consecutively. This seems to be all about licensing, doesn’t it?). What titles do you wish they had announced?
>>I wish they’d licensed ToraDora, K-On, and Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei. How these immemsely popular shows escaped licensing is beyond me (or there might be other factors preventing them from licensing it, but still…)
#5. Take your favorite anime/manga character and make the president for a day. What would be the first policy they enacted?
>>Keyblades will be the standard weapon for any citizen. Also, all Mickey Mouse merchandise will be required to show him wearing a trenchcoat.
#6. What manga do you wish someone would make an anime of?
>>+Anima and Otomen. Both are perfectly suited to make great anime, in character designs and plot.
#7. Last question, I promise. What do you deem the most surprising anime/manga moment?
>>When we first see Rena’s demonic side in the first arc of When They Cry. Going into the book with no real knowledge of what it was about, seeing Rena contort her face into a demon’s really shocked me. And everyone else I gave the book too.
BQ: Haha, I lied, that wasn’t the last question. Don’t look at me like that, my fingers were crossed. Anyway, todays BQ is….A Guess-Who special!
Who is the bloke in this picture?http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/1781/wh…
Hint one: He’s a nekogami.
Hint two: The author of this series has done another manga about a supernatural bureau.
Have fun, peeps and peepettes. To the finite world, I leap!
Why Is There No Screening Of School Volunteers?
I have a 5 year old son and a 15 year old son both attending public school. I’ve been volunteering for the school board for 12 years and never had an issue re: screening. But, while attending my 5 year old’s information night, the teachers were pleading for people to volunteer for their reading program. On a daily basis they wanted to have volunteers come into the school for one-on-one reading sessions with the students in isolated rooms. They even announced that no screening was required and that they were desperate for volunteers to make their reading program a success. My red flags immediately went up. I asked that my son be excluded from the program, though the school insisted that there shouldn’t be an issue.
Last week my son’s teacher sent home a note requesting that parents volunteer to drive senior kindergarten students to field trips as a cost cutting measure. They indicated that all students would be required to bring their booster seats to school on field trip days. When I phoned the school the principle assured me that there should be no issue with this as there would be a minimum of 4 students per parent volunteer driver, “so what could possibly happen.” Again, no screening required. Furthermore, the volunteers would have to sign waivers so that the school would not be liable for their actions.
Am I off my rocker or does this cross the line?
Super Long Question. Please Answer. 10 Best Points! Friendship Is Hard?
Thanks in advance, please read fully.
Friend problems.
Lexi:
My friend Lexi and I, have been super close from kindergarten. We’ve been through many things together, and that includes many fights. But this year we are in grade 9 and I don’t know if our friendship will hold. From grade 7 and a bit of grade 6, she’s been really close to my other friend Meghan. Lexi never really talks to me that much anymore, though we hang out with the same group of people. Lexi and Meghan leave during lunch and hang out with the popular people rather than us. I find that Lexi has changed drastically, and I don’t mean in a good way.
Amber:
Me and Amber were super close in grade 7. We were inseperable. Although, she was really popular and I was average. She promised me that even though all her popular friends drank and got drunk, that she would never do that. We spent all our time together. She called me every five minutes, and I did the same. Now, she’s been hanging out with Lexi and Meghan at lunch and she doesn’t even talk to me anymore. We don’t call each other. She says a whole bunch of crap behind my back.
**Story 1:
For Christmas, our school has a Christmas show. My idea was to do a dance on stage. Lexi and Amber agreed! We couldn’t wait! Then I was sick for two days and when I came back, Meghan came over to me and said, I can’t wait till we dance! I was kind of shocked that Lexi and amber hadn’t told me that they invited Meghan into the dance, but I didn’t mind. Then I found out that they had practices without telling me and they said that they didn’t want me in the dance becuase I didn’t know it. I also have irratible bowel syndrome and they never cared before. But just before the dance they said that they didn’t want my stomach to hurt. I thought that this was BS becuase they never cared before. They apoligized and I forgave because I’m not a person to hold a grudge.
** Story 2:
My new friend Kristen came to our school this year. Meghan and Lexi don’t like her and we don’t really know why. So me, Kristen, the twins, Chloe and Kate went to the mall without inviting Amber, Meghan or Lexi becuase they didn’t like Kristen. They followed us to the mall and then came up to us and started spazzing at us and how they felt left out becuase we were always with Kristen. We came back with how they are always with Amber and never with us.
Kate:
Kate and I were close since grade 8 (last year). She’s super smart and whenever I get a better mark than her she get’s mad at me. I feel like she used me because last year, she didn’t really have any friends and she was always with me. This year, people from her soccer team came to our school and it’s like bye Sharon, I’m going to go hang out with them now. So I started to hang out with Kristen more and she got mad becuase she felt like I left her for Kristen.
Shannon:
Shannon has been my best friend since I was in grade 4. We were super close but then her parents seperated and she moved with her mom. We still keep in contact, in fact, we send letters to eachother all the time, even though she lives like 10 minutes away!
The problem with this, is that I miss her so much! I hate never seeing her becuase we are always busy!
So all in all,
Meghan, Amber and Lexi are causing big issues for us. We have no idea what to do. They hate us hanging out with Kristen, but they are never there during lunch. Oh! Also, whenever I’m sick I heard that Lexi always says, “Oh Sharon is sick again… What a surprise.”
I find it funny how she cared before the dance when obvs. she didn’t want me in it. She doesn’t usually care. And she never calls me when ever I’m sick, but she gets mad when I don’t call her.
I have NO IDEA what to do.
Please help, and thanks for reading all this!
Best answer to the answer which gives advice for all these problems! thanks!
PS: I can’t get mad at Kate because everyone else loves her and right when I want to start crying she comes to me and acts like we’re best friends again!
Thanks SOOOOO MUCH!

Help My Son Is Stuck To The Tv!!!!!!!?
My 5 yr old is a very smart kid, he is starting kindergarten this year but never went tp preschool or daycare, he learned many things at a very young age, he knows his letters and numbers shapes and colors in 2 languages, I taught him how to write, he is even into spelling and reading -i read a book for him once or twice, he memorizes it and then reads to me hundreds of times.
He is very active and never sits still, he loves playing with his 2 yr old sister…
where is the problem??? starting this year we ran into personal family issues involving a move from one home to another, a death in the family, a wedding, 2 close ppl being hospitalized, so basically me and my husband were extremely busy running from one place to another to the point I stopped teaching my son and we relied mostly on tv to keep him occupied, bear in mind he was never left alone, he always had an adult with him. Now he imagines himself as tv characters, and refused to leave the tv, how can unstuck him off the tv?
My Toddler Cries Every Time I Put Her On The Potty.?
My daughter is two and a half years old. I have been trying to potty train her, but I haven’t been having much success. She seems very interested in potty training books and videos. When I put on a potty training video, she is memorized by it and sings along to all the songs. She also wants to read a potty training book at bedtime almost every night. Despite her interest, she hates actually potty training. We have three different toddler potties in our house, and whenever I put her on any of them, she starts to cry. She doesn’t become hysterical, but her cry is definitely more than a little whine. She’ll just sit there and continue to cry until I take her off. I have tried reading to her on the potty too. When I read to her, she doesn’t cry, but she gets off the potty and doesn’t go to the bathroom. I have also tried potty training first thing in the morning, but she is usually to cranky to have any part of it. At this rate,I’m afraid my daughter is going to start kindergarten in diapers. I don’t understand… she is very smart and a good toddler overall. Any advice?
