Does Anyone Have An Idea For A (military Style) Cadence That I Could Sing With My First Graders?
It sounds a little “Kindergarten Cop” but they have lots of fun with it… This is my only good example:
(teacher) We know first grade is the best
(echo) We know first grade is the best
(teacher) Better – Better than the rest
(echo) Better – Better than the rest
(teacher) We can read and we can write!
(echo) We can read and we can write!
(teacher)Our math is out of sight!
(echo) Our math is out of sight!
(teacher)Sound off
1,2
(teacher)Sound off
3,4
etc. etc….
Please – no comments on the military – this is supposed to be fun!
We like ice cream, we like cake
eat too much our bellies ache
grains and dairy, veggies too
we like stuff that’s good for you
Brush our teeth and go to school
Learning stuff is really cool
Sound off (1 2)
Sound off (3 4)
Sound off 1 2 3 4 Sound off!
Learn to read and write things well
count our numbers, learn to spell
Alphabet and ABCs
Animals and plants and trees
First we get our homework done
Then we play and have some fun
Sound off (1 2)
Sound off (3 4)
Sound off 1 2 3 4 Sound off!
Good idea, but if you are going to have them march to a cadence, make sure you get the meter right.
“Our math is out of sight ” doesn’t work.
It should be “Our new math is out of sight.” 7 beats.
We can count and we can add,
10 plus 10 is not so bad.
We play soccer in the mud,
Go home dirty as an Idaho spud.
We learn new things every day,
sometimes work and sometimes play.
Maybe a cadence from “Those Caissons go Rolling Along”
would work. (Over hill, over dale, we will hit the dusty trail as those caissons ,go rolling, along one two three.)
Good luck!
(teacher) Everywhere we go
(kids) Everywhere we go
(teacher) People wanna know
(kids) People wanna know
(teacher) Who we are
(kids) Who we are
(teacher) So we tell them
(kids) So we tell them
(teacher) We are the readers
(kids) We are the readers
(teacher) the mighty mighty readers
(kids) the mighty mighty readers
(teacher) Bring on the ABC’s
(kids) Bring on the ABC’s
(teacher) Or the 1 2 3′s
start again at the top
make sure you say the last syllable of every sentence double
(i.e. everywhere we go-oh)
we come to school each day
so we can learn and play
how to count and how to read
our teachers there in the lead
she (or he) helps up with the things we do
yes we love to be in school!
I dont know but its been said…….Its fun to add numbers in your head……1 + 1 =’s 2………Its as easy as tying your shoe…….2+2=’s 4…………..bend down low and touch the floor……4+4+’s 8…….. come on class your doing great…..2+1=’s 3……..touch your elbow to your knee……….3+3=’s 6………jump on one foot and do some tricks…….Adding numbers is all it takes…….come on class march in place…..left ….. left …..left right left…….left left left right left….
Hmm.. I think that one sounds neat! I think that’s a cute idea, and they really would have a good time with that!
