How Can I Get My Child Into A School In Another District?
He is in a private Montessori for kindergarten(which I love, reading well before 5 yoa) The staff informed me that they believe it will make a big difference in transition to have him in a school for first grade with kids from the class he has now. None will be in my district and my district is REALLY lousy. I’ve sat in on huge classes where a lot of time was spent teaching the Spanish speaking children. I’m happy for those kids, getting the extra time, though not at my child’s expense. Plus, their scoring and class sizes are appalling. I have been to the school I would like him in and I really feel it’s a good step but I don’t no the best way to get him in. I know it CAN be done and I would appreciate any advice. Thanks to all!
if you have a family member who lives in another district you can say you live there i guess.. if not go to the dept. of education and tell them your concerns and that you want your child in another school and you are willing to take him
Hi,
I’m a freshman in high school and did the same thing when I was in elementary school.
You will need to pick up a petition to go into the other school district.
It’s a fairly simple process, but it must be done each year.
I think it can be picked up at the superintedents office.
Hope this helps;
Julia
You need to ask the district in which you wish to enroll your child. If it is possible then they can tell you how.
You need to talk to someone at the school district that you want your child in to find out if they have open enrollment from other districts and what the procedure is. There may be requirements such as the parent needs to work in the preferred district, students of certain ethnic / economic groups for diversity, etc. Some school districts have a point system they use for open enrollment. You also need to find out if there are different classes at your neighborhood school, classes that you might feel are appropriate for your son.
Some school districts will have the information you are looking for on their website. Start there.
Good luck!
