Okay, So I Wanna Be A Kindergarten Teacher When I Get Older,?
and I’m not sure like what degrees I’m supposed to get or anything.
I read somewhere that it would be wise to get your master’s degree, but like do I have to take college for 4 years and then get the master’s or can I just do it while I’m in college for the 4 years.
This may sound kinda confusing, because I’m not sure really how to phrase this, but let me know if it is or not.
Please and thank you.
You will need to get a Bachelor’s Degree from a 4 year college. If you get your degree and major in Early Childhood Education, you will still need to complete an internship as a ‘student teacher’ and take your state’s test to acquire a transitional teaching certificate before you can be hired as a teacher in a public school system.
Typically, teachers who major in some other field of study- ie. geology, English, biology, etc., during their 4 years of college, then apply to graduate school and complete and additional 1 year’s Master’s de
If you want to teach Kindergarten in a public school, you will need to get your Bachelor’s Degree, complete a teacher preparation program (this is where you do classroom observations and student teaching) and take whatever tests your state requires. You should major in whatever your college counselor tells you is the appropriate major for teacher preparation (in CA, it’s Liberal Studies).
After all this, you will be able to get a multiple subject or early education credential that should qualify you to teach at least K-3, possibly additional grades. Go to your state’s Department of Education website to find out what the teacher credentialing requirements are, because they are slightly different in each state.
Teachers with Master’s Degrees get paid more, but it is not usually required (again, check with your state). You can always work on your Master’s once you already have a teaching job.
There are specific degrees in elementary education you can get at college.
