PostHeaderIcon Parents Of Kindergarteners?

Do kindergartners do homework? if, you do homework with your kindergarten how many hours are we talking and what do you cover?
My son just started kindergarten this year–I read to him every night for 20 Min’s (30 Min’s if I have time) other than that I don’t do a lot with him on during the weekdays. On the weekends however, I make sure he practices his writing and counting nothing BIG.
I was talking to a neighbor who’s daughter is in kindergarten also, and she was telling me that her daughter who goes to school 8-3 comes home and does an hour of social studies and science.
Which then she takes her daughter to Kumon Learning Center for reading and math. Comes back home takes shower and eats dinner.
I did not go to school in the states..and ever since she told me that I have been questioning myself..is my kid behind? his teacher says he’s doing wonderful!! or is my neighbor over doing this whole academics.
That’s nearly 10 hours for a six year old.
Please do share your opinion. Thanks

your neighbor is blowing this out of proportion. Do what you think is best for your kindergartener. a parent reading to their child for 20-40 minutes can do a lot more that puting your child in classes at the “kumon” learning center with strangers.
Even though your neighbor seems intimidating, puting 10 hours of work on a child plus whatever else might sress out the child!
Do wat you think iz best
