What Can Starting To Speak Late As A Child Mean?
I started talking when I was two and a half, which I’m told is old, but when I started talking I spoke in full sentences.
I did something similar when I started to read. I read later than everyone else (in first grade instead of Kindergarten), but once I learned I started to read on a 4th grade level.
What could of caused this?
Einstein didn’t speak a word untill he was 3…
it could be mild autism.
“Einstein syndrome refers to smart children who start talking significantly later than other toddlers, to the point where some can even read before they can talk. Sometimes they’re misdiagnosed with autism or attention deficit disorder. It sounds to me like it’s related to Asperger’s Syndrome..”
i think children who do this are very observant of what other people say before they start talking. and once they get to the “big kid” stage around 2 or 3, not only do they want to act like a big kid, but they want to talk like a big kid too. with reading, most toddlers tend to memorize favorite books when they are read to. when they get to the age and realize that the scribbles on the bottom of the page make words, it’s easier for them to read, because they allready know the story, and learning new words becomes very easy because of what they have allready memorized from being read to. this is why it is important to read to your kids!
it is how some people figure stuff out
some people develop speech later than others with some like yourself not speaking until in full sentences (my mum did this), same with walking most of us crawl first then walk but some slide on their bums or don’t crawl at all and then start toddling and eventualy walking
we all develop differently and are all unique unless you have a serious speech impediment or severe learning difficulties don’t worry about it
my neice didn’t talk til she was 3. and then she talked in full sentences also. She is VERY intelligent ,she’s 25 now. the doctor said she just didnt have anything to say. she also had older brothers who talked for her.
My sister did the same thing. It seemed like she wanted to make sure she got it right when she did decide to talk. Don’t know if there is any special significance to it though.
